Cusco, the former capital of the Incas, is the oldest continuously inhabited city in the Americas. In 1983, the city was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The ruins of the ancient Inca city formed the foundations of Spanish architecture, which can still be admired today. Walking through the narrow streets surrounded by the Inca walls, you can get a feel for what life was like in an ancient civilization. It’s almost like stepping back in time.
The main tourist area is the Plaza de Armas and the surrounding streets, with many of the main attractions located within a few blocks. Northeast of the Plaza de Armas, nestled on a hill, is the San Blas district. Cobblestone streets lead to this unique, small neighborhood. Popular with foreigners, it’s quieter than the city center. It also offers one of the most beautiful views in the entire city.

During pregnancy, you’ll likely encounter conditions you wouldn’t encounter at home, such as illnesses, and perhaps even HIV, that can be transmitted from mother to child. This is a great opportunity to expand your knowledge as a midwife and acquire new skills useful for your future career.
You may also encounter problems during labor that could have been prevented if the patient had received earlier care. You’ll also have free time to take individual excursions or learn about the history of Cuzco or the tropical jungle of Puerto Maldonado.

As part of the KIVOLEX medical Elective Program in Cusco, you will receive 20 hours of tutoring, carefully tailored to your needs, while working in a hospital. Our Programs consist of two main components: conversation and grammar, each led by a teacher who will help you make the most of your Spanish Program.
